How To Conserve Gas with Your Car

Last Updated on January 10, 2022 by tim

Gas prices have been steadily rising over the last few years, and for some, gas prices have you worried about bankruptcy. To make things worse, it looks like gas prices won’t be going down anytime soon. Here is how to conserve gas and make that full tank last longer to save you money.

Tips on How to Conserve Gas

  • Go easier on the gas petal. Going even 5 miles an hour slower lowers gas consumption.
  • Turn off the AC. You may not know it, but your AC uses a lot of juice. If isn’t really hot, skip the AC.
  • Clean up your car. All that extra weight in the trunk can really make your car work.
  • Be smarter while driving. Let off the accelerator earlier when approaching a stop, speed up before hills to make the climb easier, and use the cruise control more.
  • Keep those RPMs low. Learn how to skip gears if you’ve got a stick-shift, avoid engine braking, and reacquaint yourself with Neutral (it’s not just for towing).
  • Take care of your car. Keep that car in good working order. Make sure to take care and maintain it. You may not know it, but things like Tire pressure, spark plugs, air filters, and oil make a big difference on your fuel consumption.
  • Pick the Right Gas Station. Many gas stations have very different prices, even if they are right next to each other. Simply going to the cheapest one can save you money on gas.
  • Don’t Drive if you don’t have to. There are many options how to get to Point A to Point B, other than driving. Simply walking or riding a bike to nearby locations can save you money and gas. If it is a bit farther, Public Transportation is your friend. Paying simply 75 cents (in my town) to ride the bus across town seems like a good deal. Considering how The U.S. national average gas price has been rising, and you could save good money just taking Public Transportation to work everyday.
